We’re transforming Applied Epic to unlock new levels of value.
In a world where tech options are changing quickly, you need a technology foundation that is open, flexible, and easily integrates with the partners you choose as part of your tech stack. That’s why we’re transforming Applied Epic, taking it from a closed system to a standard, open, and secure cloud-native architecture wrapped in a RESTful API.
Bringing Applied Epic to the Browser
What We Said We’d Do
We set out to build a browser-native version of Applied Epic to deliver a modern user experience and quicker value realization with smaller, more frequent releases while minimizing technology overhead.
What We’re Delivering
Proof Point 1
We launched Applied Epic as a fully native-browser platform, including access to the same core capabilities available in the Applied Epic platform for all user personas. Further, developing Applied Epic in the browser allows us to deliver more capabilities to our browser users. Our new Add Client workflow is a case in point.

We promised to provide new, more flexible ways to obtain insights and reporting from your existing data via our Data Lake technology.
The Applied Data Lake is up and running! Built on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Google’s leading AI, machine learning, data visualization tools, and more are all native to the platform and easy for your team to use.
Proof Point 2
We have agencies in production on the Data Lake who collectively have 3.5 TB of data loaded into the environment providing insights.
Proof Point 3
We’re seeing results! Early performance indicators show significantly faster query time, reducing 1-8 minutes to 3-6 seconds.
Delivering New Data Lake Architecture
The first wave of APIs is now available! This first batch of APIs focuses on the most commonly accessed areas of Applied Epic, like CRM and Activity, but we will release more APIs throughout the year.
We launched a comprehensive Developer Portal with published APIs and documentation to help you get started.
We’re expanding API access to partners, plus opening the aperture of partners to provide more pre-built, third-party integrations.

We delivered a simpler user experience, which means fewer clicks, fewer screens, and more native lookups and validation – that makes for more productive and happier staff. Simplifying the workflows and user experience also translates to less complexity when onboarding new employees into the system. So far, 7,000 users (and counting!) have transitioned to Epic Browser and are raving about the new modern user experience.
We moved from large bi-annual releases to smaller bi-weekly releases so we can get new capabilities and product updates in your hands quicker while reducing the burden of bigger annual releases.

We said we’d break down the closed, monolithic architecture of Applied Epic via open API technology for easier data exchange in and out of the system.
Opening Applied Epic with APIs
Commercial Lines is one area still plagued by manual tasks, and we’re in the best position to solve this industry challenge.
We believe that digital connectivity – from policyholders to agents to carriers and back – is the lifeblood of innovation in our industry. In partnership with Ivans, we’re investing heavily in a digital superhighway that will create easy connection points at each stage of the commercial policy lifecycle right in your daily workflows.
We said we would connect and automate the Commercial Lines workflow to create a fully digital roundtrip of insurance.
Ivans acquired Ask Kodiak and integrated their best-in-class market search and appetite communication technology with Ivans Distribution Platform, the industry’s Commercial Lines marketing and sales distribution platform. Using Ask Kodiak’s modern interface, carriers can define and manage appetite in real time to support accurate appetite communications and digital submissions, reducing operational cycle time and declination rates. Agencies using commercial quoting solutions supported by Ivans Distribution Platform now have access to Ask Kodiak’s advanced appetite matching capabilities to place more of their Commercial Lines business.
We acquired Tarmika, the leading Commercial Lines quoting solution known for its simple user experience and robust carrier product panel. Supporting more than 20,000 business classes, you can now quote multiple lines of business to multiple carriers using Tarmika’s single-entry solution. Looking ahead, we’ll integrate Tarmika with Applied Epic and EZLynx so you can take advantage of Tarmika’s Commercial Lines quoting capabilities without ever leaving your core system. Additionally, Tarmika’s panel of Commercial Lines products will be integrated into Ivans Distribution Platform, making it the most robust commercial distribution platform available.
We extended Commercial Lines connectivity to mid-market and specialty lines via Indio, the industry-leading application and submissions management platform. We’re delivering a variety of enhancements to the platform this year, including expanding the email submissions capability to send all submissions to all markets at once; providing a submissions dashboard to track total submissions and progress; and developing support for inheriting Applied Epic permissions and roles to manage individual access/control.

Part 2: Connecting the Commercial Lines Experience
Benefits brokers have not had access to the same level of automation and connectivity available for the P&C business, but we’re committed to changing that.
We started several years ago to invest in the Benefits space to provide you a single view of your business – both P&C and Benefits. We’re doubling down on our investment, bringing the same levels of digital agency automation and connectivity for Benefits brokers that we offer today for P&C.
We said we’d deliver integrated automation from the front office to the back office for our composite P&C and Benefits brokers.
Applied Epic incorporates native Benefits functionality so you can easily manage both your P&C and Benefits books of business in a single platform. Epic Benefits provides unique Benefits-specific screens to capture general plan information, rates, coverages, eligibility criteria, stop loss and TPA information. Direct integration with Applied Benefits Designer provides access to custom form management and templates that beautifully present RFPs and plan summaries. We continue to invest heavily to bring even more Benefits-specific capabilities to Applied Epic, and not just capabilities, but making sure that it’s in the language and terms you expect as a Benefits broker.
We expanded Applied Epic for Salesforce to support Benefits brokers. Epic Benefits for Salesforce is an application built within Applied Epic for Salesforce. It provides tight integration between Salesforce and Applied Benefits solutions, allowing you to manage updates from one application rather than creating custom integrations that need constant maintenance and updates. We’ve already released many exciting Benefits features this year, including integrated real-time plan modeling that allows you to have more meaningful plan comparison conversations, new benefits-specific reports for greater insight into sales and servicing performance, and more. You can see all the new features here.
We continued to deliver innovative features to our Benefits plan modeling solution Applied Benefits Designer, including the highly requested Request for Proposal (RFP) Builder. This feature allows you to use data points already in Applied Benefits Designer and Applied Epic to create and submit a Request for Proposal to carriers. It also lets you send out requests for proposals directly from the system all at once using pre-built templates instead of having to re-create each RFP from scratch. But this isn’t the only enhancement we’ve rolled out this year. Check out all the latest features here.
Extending Digital Agency Value to Benefits Brokers
Proof Point 4
Applied Marketing Automation is the industry’s first marketing automation application that allows you to quickly build and track marketing email campaigns so you can deliver the right message to the right audience at the right time. It features a robust library of P&C and Benefits-specific content, like articles on compliance, legislative updates, and more. New content is frequently added and kept up to date by our dedicated editorial team to ensure your communications are relevant and timely.

Part 3: Extending Value to Benefits Brokers
The accounts receivable process is extremely labor-intensive, and we’re committed to solving this pain point for you.
When looking at the forces impacting our industry, like the demand for simple customer experiences, we recognized an opportunity to provide more value to your business with digital payments, specifically, a solution designed for the industry and natively integrated into your daily workflows.
We set out to deliver a full cycle accounts receivable solution that automates the payment process from end to end, so you can manage your cost structures better while lowering E&O when reconciling premiums manually.
We introduced Applied Pay, the only natively integrated digital payments solution built specifically for insurance. Applied Pay provides a safe, convenient way for insureds to pay their premiums online from any device and integrates seamlessly with Applied Epic, Applied CSR24, and EZLynx. It offers custom-branded checkout pages and flexible payment options, including ACH, credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, eWallet, and more. Applied Pay automatically handles payment authorization and tokenizes sensitive information to increase security and ensure compliance. It also integrates into the general ledger to reconcile accounts receivable, reducing manual effort and improving accuracy and timeliness in reconciling payments.
